Primers for nosZ, nirK and nirS genes

By sheebzs - Posted on 02 February 2009

These papers mainly focus on primers for the nosZ gene, but all of them talk about primers for nirS and nirK genes as well. Most primers for the nirS and nirK genes had various degrees of success. Many of these papers used same to similar primer set(s) for the nosZ gene.

Ingela Noredal Throback et al (2004) is a good starting point for looking at primers. The study looked at primers that targeted nirS, nirK and nosZ genes. In brief, this group tested a variety of primers from various studies that were successful to determine which primer sets were the best at amplifying desired gene fragments from soil. They did run into problems with product resolution of the nirS gene.

Karin Enwall et al (2000) had success with primers they used to amplify the nosZ gene.

Henry et al (2006) had a good section on molecular techniques for primer design and quantitative PCR. Their results showed good primer success.

The nosZ primers used in the Henry et al paper were used successfully in a study done by rdietzel.
